Libraries in Bromsgrove and Rubery to adopt new 'Unlocked' model

Bromsgrove Editorial 1st Feb, 2024   0

WORCESTERSHIRE’S new Libraries Unlocked model is now being rolled in Bromsgrove and Rubery.

Following the changes, library opening hours are extended outside of staffed hours, with the aim of giving residents increased access to facilities.

Once launched, library customers who are 15 and over will be able to upgrade to free Libraries Unlocked membership and use the library outside staffed opening hours from 8am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday.

Worcestershire County Council is inviting library members to an Introduction drop-in session to learn more about the changes.

Those interested can visit Rubery Library, on February 15 or Bromsgrove Library on February 20. Both sessions will be held between 10am to 11.30am.

Worcestershire County Councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for communities said: I am thrilled that Libraries Unlocked is coming to Bromsgrove and Rubery Libraries and urge you to drop by and learn how it works, the benefits and how you can make the most of the new service.

“Libraries Unlocked is a brilliant idea that empowers families, working parents, and the entire community to access the library at their convenience.”

The scheme has already been rolled out in nearby Droitwich Spa with many community workers praising its benefits.

A community worker in Droitwich commended the new model for allowing her to host flexible events in order to engage with the community.

Similarly, a youth worker was grateful for the service offering a flexible space for young people in the area to complete college work, meet with friends and even host music sessions in bookable meeting rooms.

The Standard reported back in July that 52 per cent of active library members in Droitwich had signed up to the new unlocked scheme.
