A MALVERN gym-goer is setting up a 12-hour spinathon challenge to raise funds for a Northfield hospital charity which provided her with ‘incredible’ care.

Kerry Papps is inviting others to join her spin bike challenge at Anytime Fitness in Malvern on July 27 to support The Royal Orthopaedic Charity.

Kerry received extensive treatment at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital after an X-ray found an aggressive giant cell tumour in her left wrist in July 2023.

Her first surgery involved removing the radius bone, which was replaced with temporary custom metal plating.

The second surgery, in February 2024, involved the fibula being removed from Kerry’s leg to be grafted into her arm, a nine-hour operation.

Kerry will know if the graft in her arm has been successful within the next six to nine months.

The challenge organiser has been a member of Anytime Fitness for six years and has praised the manager, Mia Noble, for helping her on her road to recovery after months of being inactive.

Kerry has already smashed her £250 fundraising goal, with the fund sitting at £830 at the time of writing.

Kerry Papps said: “Mia has helped me on my road to recovery building muscle and getting my fitness back.

“The oncology surgeons, the plastic surgeon team, and staff at the hospital have been incredible.

“They deserve a medal for the pressure they work under every day, and so much of this hard work and dedication to saving lives goes unseen, so I want to shout from the rooftops how great they have been and try to give back what I have received.”

The challenge will take place from 7am to 7pm and participants are not required to be a member of Anytime Fitness to take part. A minimum £5 donation to the hospital charity is required.

Mia Noble, regional manager at Anytime Fitness said: “We would love you to donate and join us in this event.

“We are looking forward to seeing how far we can travel in just 12 hours.”

Participants do not have to complete the full 12 hours. Call 01684 342477 or send Anytime Fitness a message on social media to enquire. Limited spaces are available.
