A CAMPAIGN to encourage people to buy local and support Worcestershire’s food and drink industry is being backed by the county’s High Sheriff, and the Mayor of Worcester.

The High Sheriff of Worcestershire, Lt. Col Mark Jackson OBE and Coun Jo Hodges, Mayor of Worcester, are both pledging their support for the Make It Worcestershire campaign.

The campaign was launched in the summer to promote the finest produce that is grown and created here in Worcestershire. Dozens of food producers and farm shops are now displaying the Make It Worcestershire stamp of approval on their products.

Lt. Col Jackson said: “Celebrating our local produce and producers is incredibly important for the county.

“We host many different businesses here in Worcestershire, and the food and drink sector is one that has thrived. The Make It Worcestershire campaign will help these businesses continue to succeed through the ongoing pandemic and thereafter.”

Coun Hodges said: “It is a great pleasure to support a campaign that is promoting our local produce and producers.

“The present situation is frightening for our local businesses and we should be doing everything we can to support our family, friends and neighbours who run these businesses. By doing so, we can contribute to their success coming through the pandemic and to successfully recover following its effects.”

Nick Hodgetts, Managing Director of Croome Cuisine and Chair of Worcestershire Food and Drink Association said: “To have the support of the High Sheriff of Worcestershire and the Mayor of Worcester is fantastic news for the campaign and the businesses we’re supporting.

“Coronavirus has had a huge impact on our local food and drink producers and this support will go a long way to helping them continue through the pandemic and to succeed after it.”

The campaign which has been developed by One Worcestershire and the Worcestershire food and Drink Association successfully launched in August 2020 at Bell’s Farm Shop in Stourport.

Following the commitment of five local producers to help launch the campaign, there are now more than 20 producers/businesses who have pledged their support.
