Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service looking for volunteers to join its ranks

Bromsgrove Editorial 10th Jan, 2022   0

PEOPLE are being urged to make a new year pledge to volunteer with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

The roles will see residents support HWFRS’ protection and prevention work in local communities across the two counties.

Following an unavoidable pause in recruitment over the past two years due to the pandemic, the service is delighted to be able to resume the programme.

HWFRS community volunteers come from all walks of life and posts appeal to those who want to do extraordinary things – actively supporting their local community and helping to reduce the risk to the most vulnerable, especially during these difficult times.

Hereford and Worcester has 25 fire stations and call outs to over 6,500 incidents a year – more than 125 a week.

The service tackles everything from fires to RTCs to animal rescues, making it an exciting and dynamic organisation to be part of.

Activities involving volunteers include station open days, youth education schemes, such as Crucial Crew, Young Citizens Challenge and Dying2Drive, and many other community engagement activities to showcase HWFRS’ vital work.

Caroline Webster, senior technician at HWFRS Prevention Department, said: “Volunteers find the experience positive and rewarding.

“Their busy programme also takes in supporting our operational crews at training exercises and at fundraising car washes.

“So if you’d like to start the new year with a renewed sense of purpose, this is the ideal moment to consider enrolling with us as a community volunteer and join the men and women from across the two counties who get a sense of satisfaction – and fun – from supporting our prevention work in the community.”

There are 20 volunteers in the team at the moment but the service is looking for more – roles are open to people 18 and over who will receive an enhanced DBS check, full training and mentoring and expenses.

Visit hwfire.org.uk/join-us/volunteers for more on the roles and go to wmjobs.co.uk/job/67999/community-volunteer/ to apply.
