Hanbury Countryside Show a real hit

THE HANBURY Countryside Show on Saturday pulled in the crowds and provided a fantastic day out for families with plenty of displays to visit, written by Rhia Jassi.

The 77th event showcased Worcestershire’s countryside, farming and rural life.

The show delivered an action-packed day and catered for all ages and interests.

Despite poor weather conditions, people’s spirits were lifted and the attendance was high.

Popular TV presenter and countryman Jules Hudson appeared on stage to talk about his broadcasting career and opening up his garden for charity.

He also caught up with various commentators during his talk and visited the shows’s popular attractions and displays.

This year there was a variety of music entertainment from Helen Pearson, the ballard singers and the SKAvengers with acts providing plenty of energy.

Many events within the show were very popular, especially the parade of vintage, classic and historical vehicles.

The event has always been a very popular attraction and did not disappoint spectators.

The parade consisted of six traction steam engines and 70 trucks, sports cars and motorbikes.

A new addition this year was the sheep shearing competition where 26 sheep shearers across the country plied their trade in an exciting race against the clock.

Other highlights included fine food, floral art, woodcarving, blacksmithing, crafts, farriery, ferrets and even a Shetland Pony Grand National as well as shopping from around 200 stands.

Show manager, Sue Farmer said that the Show’s social media channels were awash with positive feedback about the long-running event, completely overwhelming the team and its army of 300 volunteer staff and stewards.

She thanked the community at large for its never-ending, loyal support.

“It’s quite unusual to have such a wet Hanbury Countryside Show and although we were prepared as always, we would have preferred to see a bit more sunshine on the day.”

She concluded by thanking the incredible show team who ‘carried on regardless’.

Next year’s Hanbury Countryside Show will be on July 5, 2025.
