TWO BROMSGROVE sisters will lace up their running shoes this weekend as they start a marathon challenge to walk or run 100km in just one month to help give families in need a better Christmas.
Charlotte Mudie-Cross and Jessica Cross, along with a group of family and friends, will take on the task to raise funds for Family Action.
The charity provides practical, emotional and financial support to those experiencing poverty, disadvantage and social isolation.
The fund-raiser of former Bromsgrove and Droitwich Standard reporter Charlotte, who now reports for ITV Central.
She said: “Christmas is coming – and our family always has such a wonderful time celebrating together.
“But as a journalist, you meet so many people struggling at this time of year.
“I always think of those families battling poverty, ill health – or those escaping domestic violence situations.
“For those people, far from being a time to celebrate with family, Christmas can just cause stress and anxiety.
“I just wanted to do something to help.”
Jessica, a hair transplant technician, added: “Family Action is a great cause.
“Every £15 donated can buy a present for a child in need, so the more we can raise, the better.”
They’re aiming to raise £500 – and are already more than a quarter of the way there.
100km is the equivalent of 62.14miles, or just under 2.5 marathons, and they will need to complete the equivalent of 5k-a-day for almost three weeks solid.
The challenge begins on Saturday, November 18, and ends on December 17 – just in time for the holiday season.
