THE FORCE have announced a new way for budding officers to join West Mercia Police.
The Police Constabulary Entry Programme (PCEP) will open a career in policing for a more diverse range of candidates with the right skills, motivations, and attributes to deliver quality policing.
The entry route is available alongside the forces three other existing entry routes, which include the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA), Degree Entry Holder Programme (DHEP) and the Professional Policing Degree (PPD).
Unlike the other three entry routes, PCEP does not require applicants to complete a degree if you do not have one before joining.
Starting salary is £28,551 per annum, and applicants are expected to have two A Levels in any subject or a Level 3 qualification/relevant experience, as well as English and Maths at grade C/4 or higher.
This two-year training programme integrates classroom-based learning with on-the-job experiences, facilitated by experienced colleagues and in-house training team.
Temporary chief constable Alex Murray said: “We’re pleased to offer this new way of starting a policing career with us.
“There are now more choices when it comes to joining the service and prospective officers can take the route that best suits their background and experience.
“It is important that our service represents the communities we serve and by having different joining options we give opportunities to candidates with a wider variety of experiences and skills to join us.
“We want people to join us that are passionate about helping others to help us better serve the people of Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Worcestershire.”
