IF YOU are thinking of getting into the Christmas spirit this weekend, here are five festive things you could do in Bromsgrove, Rubery and South Birmingham.

Carol singing in Rubery and Frankley

All the festive favourites will be sang tomorrow (Saturday) at 10.30am by the Christmas tree in New Road, Rubery.

There will also be Carols by Candlelight at 6.30pm on Sunday, December 17, at the historic St Leonard’s Church in Frankley and at the same time at Beacon Church Centre, Whetty Lane, there will be a Candlelit Carol Service.

The events have been organised by the Churches Together in B45 group.

All and Sundry’s Cinderella – Broomsgrove’s Artrix

THE ‘MOST famous pantomime of them all’ Cinderella will be All and Sundry’s offering at Bromsgrove’s Artrix this Yuletide.

The traditional show, which is directed by Alison Berrisford and is full of fun, slapstick and a sprinkling of magic, will be performed at the School Drive venue at 7pm from December 16 to 23 (except December 19). There will also be Saturday and Sunday matinees.

Visit www.artrix.co.uk or call 01527 577330 for tickets or more information.

Christmas events at  Avoncroft Museum

Tomorrow (Saturday), Father Christmas will be at the museum.

Youngsters can have a go at festive crafts while they wait for the man in the big red suit to arrive with his sack full of presents.

There will also be time for children to have their picture taken with Father Christmas.

Tickets are £7.99 per child.

Also tomorrow there will be Christmas Carols in the Mission Church at 5pm.

This is a free event to attend.

Festival of Light – Bromsgrove High Street

THE EVENT will start at 5pm on December 17.

It has been created by a partnership between Artrix, NWedR and Bromsgrove District Council.

The festival, in the town centre, will bring Bromsgrove’s community together in a celebration of light and winter season.

The candlelit procession led by a 20ft giant puppet, created by Beautiful Creatures, will journey from Poundland to Argos.

Atrix Arts Centre, programming the event, has collaborated with associate artist, Kristoffer Huball, and Beautiful Creatures for the visual spectacle and it will all be hosted by BBC Hereford and Worcester’s Tammy Gooding.

Among the groups providing the music will be Bromsgrove’s community Samba band, Someone at the Door and will culminate with The Destroyers and a Birmingham-based Balkan Gypsy Band for the finale.

Oaklands and Parklands community carol concert

THIS YEAR’S Christmas Carol concert for the communities of Bromsgrove’s Oakalls and Parklands estates takes place at 6.30pm this Sunday, December 17.

The event will take place on the open grassed area by the noticeboard at the junction of Royal Worcester Crescent and Trianon Road on The Oakalls.

The Blackwell Concert Band will be providing the music and there will be mince pies and mulled cider, along with candy floss, glow sticks and sweets for the children.
