FA VASE COUNTDOWN - The scene is set for Sporting to make history

Bromsgrove Editorial 19th Feb, 2017   0

FORGET the magic of the FA Cup, it is the magic of the FA Vase which is descending on Bromsgrove as Sporting prepare to play the biggest game in the club’s history this Sunday.

The majority of a sell-out 3,000 crowd will be cheering on The Rouslers when they entertain Buckland Athletic at the Victoria Ground for a place in the semi-finals – just one round away from a dream trip to Wembley.

Sporting’s remarkable Vase run began with an emphatic 13-0 victory over Ellistown & Ibstock United in the very first qualifying round.

Paul Smith’s men have shown no fear in the Vase so far as they have dispatched Tipton Town, Cadbury Athletic, Lichfield City, Nuneaton Griff, Sun Sports and most recently Bristol Manor Farm in front of a current club record attendance of 1,487.

The recent success of the club, which formed in 2009, has attracted a new army of fans as well as former Bromsgrove Rovers supporters.

Chairman Mike Burke describes Sporting as a ‘sleeping giant’ and the Vase occasion has certainly awoken everybody to the special something happening at the club right now.

Regardless of the result on Sunday, Smith’s side have done the town of Bromsgrove proud but what a remarkable achievement it would be if they got the chance to play on the hallowed turf at HA9 0WS in a national cup final.

Management, players, fans, residents and neutrals alike can dream, but dreams can come true.

By no means is it going to be easy but with a record-breaking crowd behind them, the Sporting players have what it takes to keep rewriting the history book and cement themselves as Rouslers legends – especially if the class of 2016/17 go on to lift the FA Vase in May.

Go and do Bromsgrove and its people proud boys….

COME ON YOU ROUSLERS!
