DOCTORS in Bromsgrove and Droitwich are urging residents to stay warm as temperatures look set to plummet over the coming days.
Dr Carl Ellson, from Worcestershire’s three Clinical Commissioning Groups of GPs, said cold weather and cold homes could have a significant impact on people’s health, so keeping warm during cold spells can help prevent some illnesses, particularly for the elderly and those with respiratory conditions.
He recommends:
l Having hot meals and drinks regularly throughout the day
l Staying active and moving around
l Keeping the house warm, at least 18°C
l Wearing lots of thin layers to trap heat
Health chiefs are also urging people to allow extra time for journeys, wear appropriate footwear and clothing and be aware of your surroundings when the pavements are icy or slippy.
Dr Ellson urged people to keep an eye on elderly relatives and neighbours to make sure they had enough of the basic foods in their cupboards and to ensure they took their medication.
