County community groups tackling loneliness can apply for extra funding

COMMUNITY groups in Worcestershire aiming to tackle loneliness can apply for extra funding in January, the government has revealed.

A new £4million Local Connections Fund will be made available for community groups, charities and interest groups.

The fund – made up of £2million from the government and £2million from The National Lottery Community Fund – will be used for hundreds of small grants, worth between £300 and £2,500.

The hope is that these local organisations will help bring people and communities together as the county recovers from the pandemic.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for communities said: “The funding is great news for the many groups across the county helping to tackle loneliness during this difficult time.

“From local book clubs to walking clubs, they all offer a wide range of support for their community.

“I encourage these groups to apply for this extra funding to help them continue to make a huge difference in the local community.”

It will be split into two rounds of funding, each with its own application window.

The first opens on January 5, 2021 and the second will be in the summer.

Funding will be available to small charities and community groups in England with an annual income of £50,000 or less.
