Children can learn about becoming an archaeologist during free activities at Bromsgrove Library and The Hive in Worcester

CHILDREN and young people can find out more about becoming an archaeologist during free activities at Worcestershire Libraries this summer.

The Family Archaeology Quest comes to Bromsgrove Library this Thursday, July 29, and The Hive on Friday, July 30.

Expert staff from the Worcestershire Archives and Archaeology team will give budding archaeologists the chance to discover what it is really like to uncover history.

Families will be able to try their hands at several challenges to give them an insight into common archaeology techniques.

Challenges will include ‘Stone or Bone?’, ‘Coin Challenge’, ‘Identify Pottery, ‘Spot the difference on a map’ and ‘What material would last the longest?’

Ian Mackey, Community Project Officer, said: “We’re looking forward to taking our Family Archaeology Quest to libraries this summer.

“It’s great to be able to provide this opportunity for children and families to explore the past.

“We have a number of challenges to inspire the children and help them discover what it’s like to be an archaeologist.”

Matt Dormer, Cabinet Member with Responsibilities for Communities said: “The Worcestershire Archives and Archaeology Service provides a range of opportunities for people to explore the past.

“The Family Archaeology Quest events give the next generation of archaeologists a chance to get involved and be inspired.”

Attendees at The Hive sessions will also have the opportunity to explore additional archive and archaeology items and see how the history of the site is recorded within the grounds.

Tickets for the events must be booked in advance. Details of how to book can be found online via the ‘What’s On’ page on the Explore the Past website –
