THE BROMSGROVE Christmas Market was officially opened by MP Sajid Javid earlier today (Friday).

There are a host of stalls in the events area on the High Street near Argos selling Christmas crafts, toys and games and festive refreshments, including mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Vintage Class also performed Christmas classics, delighting the crowd with hits, such as Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow.

Jo Slade, from the friends group, welcomed everyone at this morning, saying it was fantastic to have a Christmas Market in the town again and thanking everyone who made it possible.

Mr Javid wished the traders and those visiting the stalls the best.

“And I don’t think it’s too early to be wishing everyone a very merry Christmas,” he said.

Rev Khan, the vicar from St John’s Church, revealed he had created a special prayer for the event.

“Let us pray that the wallets of the shoppers be light and the tills on the market heavy,” he added.

This is the second year the town has had a festive market and the event has been organised by the Friends of St John’s Church.

It began yesterday and will run until Sunday (November 20).

Tomorrow (Saturday), more than 20 different traders will sell seasonal items and there will be a full line-up of Christmassy entertainment before the big switch-on.

On Sunday (November 20), there will be more stalls from 10am to 2pm and members of St John’s Church will be in town at 10.45am with their Early Bird Christmas Carol Service, featuring everyone’s favourite carols to enjoy and singalong to.

Residents are urged to take along nearly-new toys to donate to the wonderful cause.
