TWO POLICE officers were left flummoxed after coming across a weird scene in Wythall whilst out on patrol between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday morning.

PC Danny Fulford and PC Adam Osborne went to investigate the number of items in a ditch on the side of the road on Silver Street near the junction of Batesman Lane after a call from a member of the public.

They found ten red tealight candles burning, £45 in cash, a plate with a box of cakes on it, a pile of burnt newspapers and some other left over newspaper, along with two matchsticks in the ground.

Concerned the flames could reach the newspaper, they extinguished the candles and recovered the cash before returning to the station.

“It was very strange. Not sure what was going on,” added PC Fulford.

The pair were also tasked with rescuing a runaway horse later on in their shift.
