BROMSGROVE players served up a treat at this year’s Knight Frank Malvern Open, a Lawn Tennis Association Grade Three ranking tournament.

Attracting 333 entries from players across 22 counties, events were held across all age groups from 9U through to Men’s and Ladies Open.

A total of 375 matches were played against the stunning backdrop of the Malvern Hills across 15 courts at the Manor Park Club and nearby Malvern St James.

On finals day, Bromsgrove’s Josie Ward took home both the 12U and 16U girls singles titles, whilst brother Toby finished runner-up in the 10U event.

Fellow Bromsgrove Tennis Club player Joe Hart claimed the 14U boys singles title whilst Ombersley and Doverdale’s Theo Houston swept aside all-comers to take the 9U title, defeating David Lloyd Bromsgrove’s George Hadley in the final.

In doubles events, Toby Ward paired up with Bath’s Joshua Knight to defeat Pershore’s Jack Bulbulia and Alfie Mills in the final of the 10U doubles event.

Manor Park Malvern’s Sally Lewin and Pershore’s Lucie Palmer were runners-up in the 18U girls event, whilst Worcester’s Billy Wright also finished second in the 18U boys event, pairing up with Gloucester’s Maian Minaar.

In the 12U doubles events, Malvern’s Sam Cassidy and Sam Laidler were defeated at the semi-final stage but there was better fortune for Pershore’s Caoimhe Guppy and Bethany Pye who took both the 14U and 12U girls doubles crowns.

Tournament referee Ed Bradford said: “The Knight Frank Malvern Open once again proved to be a highly competitive tournament, attracting a number of highly ranked players from across the country.

“Matches were fiercely competitive but all were played in the right spirit.”
