A BROMSGROVE man has been sentenced to just over three months in prison after pleading guilty to shoplifting offences.

Michael Smith, of Foxwalks Avenue, appeared at Redditch Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he was sented to a 12-week and ten-day custodial sentence.

The 28-year-old was arrested at his home on Tuesday in relation to six theft offences from shops in Bromsgrove between January 23 and February 4 this year.

Items stolen included meat, cosmetics and washing powder.

Sergeant David King, of Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Thefts and shoplifting offences impact greatly on local businesses and I’m pleased that we have been able to secure a quick conviction, which I hope will go someway towards showing Michael Smith that he must take responsibility for his actions.

“North Worcestershire officers are actively targeting acquisitive crime offences in Bromsgrove, and I hope this sentencing reassures the public we are take crimes of this nature seriously and will act on information received.”
