MORE THAN 600 boxes have been sent to children less fortunate as part of a festive charity drive across Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch.
Schools, churches and guides groups, as well as communities around Stoke Prior, Upton Warren and Wychbold amassed 255 of the boxes for Teams4U, a charity which supports children’s projects in Romania and central Europe.
As well as the churches and communities, Stoke Prior and Wychbold First Schools, and the Stoke Prior Guides Pack supported the campaign.
This year Bromsgrove School’s PrePreparatory and Preparatory sections at Stoke Heath helped for the first time, contributing 50 boxes.
The boxes are now being palleted at the charity’s Evesham depot before their 1,200 mile journey to Transylvania in central Romania, Belarus and The Ukraine in time for Christmas.
More than 8,700 left from Evesham on Saturday.
Rev Gary Crellin, from the Wychebrook Group of Churches, said: “This is the second year that communities, not just churches, have come together to support children not that many flying hours away from us, but may need our unconditional love.
“Having been on last year’s distribution trip to Bihor County in Romania, I know full well the life changing impact that a simple, filled and decorated box can have on children’s lives.”
He thanked everyone who had contributed and made such a lovely project so special.
