A BROMSGROVE construction company has beaten builders across the UK to scoop the award for the Best Heritage Project, writes Abi Cook.

Mister and Missus Limited officially took the prestigious Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) Master Builder Awards 2019 title last Friday night.

Nick Knowles, TV presenter and building enthusiast, handed the accolade to the company for their work on a three-storey, 1846 townhouse.

The property was derelict after being owned by the same family for some 60 years.

It was later purchased by Alistair Blacklaws as a holiday home for his family.

The house had previously undergone some superficial work.

An extension in the 1960s removed the property’s original features, with the owners also taking out a staircase and adding a bedsit to the basement.

The idea was to restore the house to its original 19th Century glory whilst also introducing a modern and sociable twist to the property that all the family could enjoy.

Mister and Missus Ltd were employed to renovate the house and restore the period charm.

They added a mansard roof extension to the previously-extended ground floor and an extra fourth floor to the closet wing extension.

Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “Mister and Missus played a key role in the design of this extensive refurbishment and the results are simply stunning.

“The firm delivered a first-class job and they’re a credit to the FMB.”
