Broadband backing will transform Dodford and Upton Warren into 'best-connected communities'

BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has secured backing from a broadband provider in a bid transform Dodford and Upton Warren into ‘some of the best-connected communities in the country’.

Mr Javid, who is also the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, secured the deal with Openreach CEO Clive Selley to build a ‘full fibre’ FTTP network in both parishes by April.

The move comes after broadband provider Gigaclear pulled out of deploying its service in the area, leaving residents suffering from poor connectivity.

Figures show 19 in every 20 of families and businesses across the district now have access to broadband twice as fast as Ofcom’s requirements for a typical home.

Mr Javid said the delivery of better broadband for Bromsgrove had consistently been one of his top priorities since becoming MP.

“It has been a source of great personal frustration to me that despite our constituency’s digital connectivity as a whole showing significant progress, residents living in more rural areas such as Dodford and Upton Warren have often struggled to secure a decent broadband connection.”

“In November last year, I raised this personally with the CEO of Openreach, Clive Selley, who subsequently agreed to put his best team on the case.

“I’d like to thank Clive Selley and his team, along with Coun Karen May and Coun Shirley Webb for their hard work and dedication on this issue.”
