Big Worcestershire Garage Sale helps families declutter and make some much needed cash

THE RECENT Big Worcestershire Garage Sale has helped families across the county get rid of clutter and make some cash in the process.

Hundreds of Worcestershire householders made thousands of pounds between them during one of the world’s largest ever garage sale events on June 8, thanks to local estate agency Nicol & Co.

The ‘Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ saw thousands of bargain hunters flocking to more than 500 garage sales on a total of 125 streets in Droitwich, Worcester, Malvern and the surrounding areas.

Based on early feedback, most households taking part expressed making an average of around £60 by decluttering their homes and selling unwanted items.

Other successes at the mass community event saw Droitwich Methodist Church raising £300 and the Spectrum Day Centre in Droitwich making £260, which will go towards their Rainbow Festival in July.

Matt Nicol, managing director of Nicol & Co, organisers of the event, described how he and his team were “overwhelmed” by the response to the second annual event.

Mr Nicol said: “What began as an idea to help people get rid of unwanted items and meet their neighbours and visitors at the same time has now got a real life of its own.

“It was fantastic to see thousands of people were visiting to see what bargains were on offer. Some eager buyers even took to the streets prior to the 9am start time.

“It was humbling to see people socialising, chatting to one another and just having some real fun on what has become a mass family and community day for Worcestershire.”

The organisers are planning to host the event again next summer and make the garage sale a regular event in Worcestershire’s calendar.

Nicol & Co is also helping to organise a follow-up car boot sale with Droitwich Rugby Club for this Saturday, June 15.

Householders will get a second chance to sell any unsold items. Entrance is free for everyone who purchases a hot drink.
