THREE-THOUSAND school pupils in Worcestershire were supported during half-term last week.
The county council, under its Ready Steady Worcestershire initiative, funded 34 organisations in delivering food and personal care packages to struggling families.
Food packages contained ingredients and recipe cards to help families cook healthy meals at home.
The authority also signposted fitness activities happening across the county and suggested how to keep active.
County Councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member with responsibility and skills, said: “It’s fantastic to see the initiative supporting our school pupils during the holidays.
“Through February half-term, the initiative helped the most children to date. It went from 750 in summer 2020 to 3,000 this time around.
“I am so proud to see how it has developed and how our community has come together to support these families.”
Thousands of British library fun packs were also distributed to locals by the council’s partner Oasis Community Hub.
Fay Osborne, of Oasis Community Hub, said: “The library packs are a great addition to our half-term hampers and care packages funded by the scheme which went out last week.
“We have had volunteers working on their Duke of Edinburgh award putting the packs together and they have also helped collect pre-loved games as well as creating craft packs and recipe cards.”
