25 to 29-year-olds can now book their Covid-19 vaccine as today marks the six-month anniversary of the first UK jab

THOSE aged between 25 to 29 will be invited to book their Covid-19 vaccines from today.

It comes on the six month anniversary of the largest vaccination programme in the history of the NHS which began in the Midlands when 90-year-old grandmother Margaret Keenan received the first Covid-19 jab outside of international trials.

Since then NHS staff and volunteers have delivered 6.3million first doses across the Midlands which also became the first region in England to deliver 10million overall.

In total, 4.6million Midlanders are now fully-protected, having had both doses and – from 7am today – 25 to 29-year olds do not need an invite and can book their vaccine appointments online.

The NHS is also continuing its efforts to ensure people get their second dose of the vaccine which is vital to ensure maximum protection against the virus.

Trish Thompson from NHS England and NHS Improvement’s Midlands vaccination team said: “The last six months have brought out the absolute best in our NHS staff, volunteers and the communities we work with who have really come together to ensure that the Midlands has been able to continue to lead the way in rolling out the biggest vaccination programme in the history of our NHS.

“The vaccine is our single best defence in the fight against Coronavirus and we are delighted to be able to invite people aged 25 to 29 across the Midlands to come forward to receive their vaccines – as well as continuing to encourage those who have not yet received both doses to come forward.”

How to book your vaccination

People will be able to book at one of almost 350 vaccination centres, pharmacy or general practice sites across the Midlands that are available through the national booking service.

Text invitations, which do not expire, appear as an alert from ‘NHSvaccine’ and include a web link to the NHS website to reserve an appointment. People who cannot go online can call the service on 119 instead to book their jab.

People aged 39 and under who are eligible and pregnant women will be offered the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine in line with updated JCVI guidance.
