A 12-YEAR-OLD boy remains in a critical but stable condition following a collision in Frankley over the weekend.

The young cyclist was knocked off his pushbike at about 12.45pm on Sunday on Ormond Road by a black Ford Fiesta which did not stop at the scene.

He was left with a serious head injury and had to be anaesthetised by an air ambulance doctor.

After being anaesthetised, the boy was taken to the paediatric major trauma centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The 28-year-old owner of the Fiesta handed himself into police a short time later and was released under investigation.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “An off-duty nurse was tending to the child when ambulance staff arrived.

“The youngster had suffered a serious head injury and was not fully conscious.

“The doctor on the aircraft decided to anaesthetise him at the scene before he was taken on blue lights to the paediatric major trauma centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 12806/8.
