REVIEW - Warwick Castle's Midsummer Carnival the perfect way to celebrate with the family

Now all the Covid restrictions have gone, it’s time to celebrate and Warwick Castle is putting on a summer party for all.

The Midsummer Carnival starts as soon as you enter the Castle grounds with Sir Walter Raleigh and the Castle’s Princess’ greeting guests as they wait to go in.

The transportation back to the Elizabethan era starts as soon as the gates open with members of the Garrison needing guests help to raise the Portcullis and once it’s up the festivities are well and truly underway.

The Central Courtyard has been given a summer party makeover with bunting and a stage where throughout the day jesters, William Shakespeare and Elizabeth I take centre stage.

The jousting arena, once home to the brave courageous knights of the War of The Roses, has been given a floral makeover for the occasion and is now home to a horse back adaptation of Shakespeare’s love story a Midsummer Summer Night’s Dream.

The show is watched over by the Queen Elizabeth I and The Bard.

The audience engagement with the show was amazing and it was great to see young and old captured by tale of Titania, Oberon and Puck.

The horses were the stars of the show for my little one, particularly the Shetland Pony when he sat on the love-in-idleness flower.

Warwick Castles usual attractions are still going ahead with the Falconer’s Quest bringing in large audiences at the Riverside Arena.

Zog was hotly anticipated by my toddler (there were chants in the car and I’ve since had to read both books several hundreds of times) and he did not disappoint.

Despite the rain during the live Zog Show the toddler was silent and captivated for a solid 25 minutes – a feat only ever achieved by Cocomelon before now.

There’s plenty to see, do and get involved in with the Midsummer Carnival, as we were on our way to Zog playland we stopped and watched the Fighting Knights showcasing their skills up close.

The Zog playland is the perfect way to end the day with dragon slides and a chance to watch the screen adaptation of the book.

It also makes sure every last ounce of energy has been used up and lots of sleep filled with dreams of peacocks and Zog are had.

Planning the day is a must if you want to see everything as some things overlap and others are only featured once during the day.
