New play about two entrepreneurial mums running their local PTA like a business coming to Artrix

A NEW play about two mums in a charming village who run the local school PTA with ‘brutal efficiency’ is being performed at Bromsgrove’s Artrix next Friday (February 10).

In The Motherhood by Hayley Pepler and performed by Outer Circle Arts, sees Nita and Bonnie use enterprising and sometimes shocking methods to exploit the day-to-day struggles of mums, leading to highly lucrative results for their organisation.

Jacs – a savvy city type who is looking to make an impression – comes onto the scene but this PTA does not let anyone in.

Will Jacs have what it takes gain a place in the parental pecking order or will the feathers fly?

Writer Hayley, who gave birth to her third child earlier this month, said: “It was really important to me to write this play because I want to celebrate mums.

“I want to draw attention to the incredible job women are doing every day to raise the next generation in the face of enormous competing pressures about how we do it.”

The play was originally staged at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in November 2015 where it played to packed houses.

The original cast will be reunited for the tour, including Lauren Crace as Jacs, Sarah Horner as Bonnie and Louise Mardenborough as Nita.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 7pm, are £10 and are available by visiting www.artrix.co.uk or by calling 01527 577330.
