Give Bromsgrove's Casa Med a try - for an authentic tapas experience

IF YOU haven’t been down to Casa Med, then you really are missing out. Casa Med is every bit the authentic tapas experience.

Just off Bromsgrove High Street the tapas bar and restaurant offers a variety of dishes and flavours for all tastes. Set in a beautifully lit courtyard this 300-year-old building, with it’s quirky décor and old rustic beams provides a lovely atmosphere.

After we had arrived and got settled, manager Matthew talked us through the menu and was able to tell us what kinds of dishes would be best suited to our likes.

Each dish is designed and created by award winning tapas Chef Claire and there were so many to choose from.

For our starter we had hand rolled flatbread which was divine, and we chose a number of the hand made dips to accompany this. They were Tzatziki, Houmous, Zaalouk and Ezme. It was hard to say which was the best as they were all delicious, each providing their own unique flavour – well they say ‘variety is the spice of life’.

For our main we chose a selection of Tapas dishes to share between us – the Pork Belly – marinated in apple juice, white wine, thyme, fennel and garlic – was a real melt in the mouth meal. That was not surprising as, Matthew told us, it had been slow-cooked to perfection for 12 hours.

The wild mushroom and chicken risotto was a pleasant surprise and it is a dish we would not normally opt for. We have been to so many places where it has not been right and has disappointed because it was so bland but this one was full of flavour – truly mouthwatering.

We also had the Halloumi Brochettes which were lightly fried on skewers and served with onion jam, tzatziki and basil oil. Halloumi is one of our favourites and again, this was full of flavour and just beautiful

Finally we had a dish of patatas bravas – fried potatoes topped with a classic Spanish spice tomato sauce – and a portion of sweet potato fries which were amazing and complemented everything else perfectly.

Each dish served was well-presented and lived up to the expectation – every dish was as good as it looked.

There was a good selection of desserts which made it extremely hard to chose.

But, as we had already over-indulged in the main course and as we are both chocaholics, we decided to share a chocolate brownie. This didn’t disappoint and was served with Lovington’s vanilla ice cream and was beautifully presented.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Casa Med, which has been in Bromsgrove High Street since July last year and can accommodate 40 diners on two floors.
