A FUND-RAISING concert held by the ‘Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcome Refugees’ (BRWR) volunteer group last week raised more than £2,000 to support local refugees.

The ‘Gimme Shelter’ concert at Artrix, was well supported with 170 people attending.

The BRWR raises funds to support refugees in the local area who have been displaced by war and persecution.

Alistair Waugh of the BRWR said: ”We really want to thank people for all their support.

“Above all, the event was a reminder about being human, feeling love, and that people have always migrated.”

The group offer social activities such as English lessons, advice and friendship to help the Redditch Syrian community integrate into local life, as well as arranging monthly collections of essential supplies sent to refugee camps through Worcestershire charity ‘People in Motion’.

The Gimme Shelter concert was led by Rubery poet Giovanni Esposito, aka ‘Spoz’, and the crowd was roused by Bromsgrove Town Crier Kevin Ward.
