England’s chances at the 2022 World Cup: Is it enough for the title?

IT IS time again! This year’s highlight, the World Championship of Soccer 2022, is starting soon and of course, the whole world is excited! One reason why this year’s tournament is so special is the lack of such an event for the last two years. The pandemic and its restrictions made it impossible for some time to celebrate and watch the matches together. But finally this has come to an end and here we go with the World Championship of Soccer 2022 in Qatar!

As every national team that has made it to qualify for the tournament is preparing at the time, working on strategies to beat the other teams and eventually win the title, the fans are preparing and calculating their chances to win some bets as well. For many sports betting enthusiasts it is now the right time to check the news on football, research and find the best offers for the World Cup games in order to be prepared and eventually profit from the upcoming tournament.

One of the teams which is seen as a favorite of this year’s World Championship is England. The British team has shown a huge amount of motivation and definitely goes to Qatar with the intention to win this year’s title. But what are their chances to win? Many ask themselves how good the Englishmen are prepared and what challenges they will have to face. We have the facts you need to know!

The qualification: A great start

One thing to look at in order to get an overview and make some forecasts for the upcoming World Cup is definitely the way the teams qualified to participate in the tournament.

When we look at the performance the English team has presented in the last couple of months we can learn a lot about how they might be doing at the World Cup as well. It must be said that the team exceeded not only all expectations but even broke some historical records while qualifying for the World Cup 2022. One example of this unprecedented performance of the team was their match against San Marino in November last year. After one hour of absolute football madness, the team’s coach Gareth Southgate, decided to show some mercy with San Marino by replacing the team’s captain Harry Kane. For about 60 minutes, the national coach watched with delight as attacker Harry Kane scored one goal after the other and without ever having enough. Just before half-time the English star had scored four goals in a row already. With that, Kane has now become the first player to score 16 goals for his country in a year.

After Harry Kane had complained about not being deployed to the field as much as he wanted to, the coach Southgate stated that it was never a question of “if” but only of “when” Kane would be let out on field. The team was joking later about that if Kane would not have been replaced at a point, he might very well have broken Wayne Rooney’s records causing his family to start a fight with the new star. Winning with a stunning 10-0 for England against San Marino, the team has proven that nothing can stop them to storm Qatar and win the title.

England: a team with experience

While many other of the teams that made it to qualify for this year’s world cup are lacking a lot of experience competing with the world’s best teams, England has been close to winning the title a couple of times and knows exactly what awaits them in Qatar.

England is currently seen as one of the favorites to begin the year-long preparation for the global tournament in the Persian Gulf due to the talent pool and experience gained as fourth in the World Cup and second in the European Championship. To many the team’s progression is reminiscent of the early years of the German national team, led by former head coach Joachim Löw. While Löw had to prescribe a dose of pragmatism for his ball possession-focused game concept for the 2014 World Cup championship, the Three Lions, who have a very strong defense, need a bit more cleverness to survive against equally strong opponents. Because it is true that only Germany, who was having a difficult time at the European Championship, was defeated as a team, England had a great season overall.

Group B: A good chance

Another important point to look at while trying to figure out the chances the English team has to win the cup of 2022 in Qatar is the group the team will be playing in. The group phase is very crucial for the rest of the tournament and England is lucky this year. Each group consists of four different teams that have to compete with each other.

Each nation will face the other three teams in a round-robin manner as the four teams chosen for the group. The three group phases matches count toward the group rankings. A win earns three points, a tie earns one, and a defeat earns none.According to total points, the top two teams from each group proceed to the single-game knockouts. Goal differential comes first as a tiebreaker when teams are deadlocked on points, then goals scored.

The English national team is this year in Group B which means it has to compete with three other nations in order to move forward. The teams it has to face are Iran, USA and Wales. All of those teams do not seem too dangerous for Southgates team. The USA famously made it once to kick England out of the race in 1950 but were not able to show such a performance again. Iran is a strong team as well but it is unlikely to be able to beat the English team.

The biggest challenge may be the neighboring team of Wales. The Welsh have shown very great performances in the past as well and will enter the tournament with a great amount of motivation. Even though many were very happy about seeing England playing in such an “easy” group, the other teams may not be underestimated. The English team has good chances but also has to work hard in order to win this year’s World Cup title.
