WITH the days and nights starting to get colder, now is the time for those with open fires to start thinking about their winter fuels and getting their chimneys swept ready for the winter.
Bromsgrove Fruit and Veg, next to Iceland on Mill Lane, offers everything you could ever need to ensure you and your family stay warm this winter.
The shop can provide logs, coal and kindling and chimney sweeping – all at competitive prices.
Because the fuel it provides is kiln dried hard wood it means it burns cleaner, leading to less residue building up in the chimney and offers better heat value, compared to many other fuels, ensuring open fires and stoves as cost effective as possible.
With regard to the chimney sweeping, Steve, Jack and Sean have more than ten years experience between them.
Steve said: “Because we have been cleaning chimneys for quite a while we have swept a number of different ones and can also identify and rectify a range of problems that come with having an open fire.”
Earlier this month, as part of Fire Safety Week, Hereford and Fire and Rescue Service issued warnings to those with open fires about the importance of ensuring their chimneys were kept well swept by a registered sweep.
The fire service’s latest figures available showed between April 2015 and March 2016 across the area the brigade serves there were 4,200 chimney fires – and many of those could have been avoided.
Steve added: “People are told every year about how they need to get their chimneys properly swept but still people do not have it done.
“It’s simply not worth the risk.”
