BIRMINGHAM’S Frankfurt Christmas Market is now officially open.

The annual event, which has been in the city since 1997, got under way on Thursday and will run until December 23.

The market, which is popular with citizens and visitors, boasts a variety of food and drink including pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, roasted almonds, gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer) and hot chocolate.

There are also craft stalls at the event, which takes up pride of place in Victoria Square and New Street. Among them are crystal lamps, Sounds of Nature, hand-crafted leatherwork, toys, jewellery and much more.

The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market is the largest authentic German festive market outside of Germany or Austria.

Opening times

The market opens from 11am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, between 11am and 9.30pm on Friday, from 10am to 9.30pm on Saturday and 10am to 9pm on Sunday.

Next Sunday, Remembrance Sunday (November 12), the market will begin at 1pm, after the city’s commemorations.
