WORK is under way at RSJC crown green bowls club in Rubery to prepare the green for the forthcoming season and the annual open day aimed at getting more people into the sport.

Members gathered on Saturday to apply topsoil and grass seed following spiking earlier in the week.

The open day – the first event of the year – will take place from 11am to 2pm on March 18 at the green, situated in St Chads Park on New Road.

Absolute beginners are welcome to come and give it a go.

Club member Jerome Turner said: “Last year’s open day way was a great success as we ended up registering many people completely new to bowling, some of them enjoying it so much that they ended up joining our league teams as the season continued.”

The open day is free and refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome.

The only requirement is that flat shoes must be worn.

Search for RSJC on Facebook for more details of the day.
