BROMSGROVE RFC scored three late tries to secure a bonus point as the Boars were put to the sword by an in-form Kenilworth side in a 50-28 defeat.
The Boars were left stunned as Kenilworth built up a 34-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes before Josh Holt, Tom Sadler and Nathan Fisher all crossed to add to James Gunther’s earlier score at the the Jack Davies Memorial Ground.
And the result means Bromsgrove have lost further ground on leaders Dudley Kingswinford who they trail by six points having played two games more.
The visitors dominated early on as Jake Atwell kicked a penalty to put the Boars into the lead before they lost scrum half Adam Whiteman to injury and Kenilworth scored the game’s first try following a blistering attack.
And Kenilworth scored their second try soon after, with Bromsgrove a man short after replacement scrum half Sam Brown was sent to the sin bin, as inside centre George Amphlett and loosehead prop Kieran Haynes clashed heads in their attempt to defend the Bromsgrove line.
Both players were unable to continue in a difficult opening 25 minutes for the Boars who limited Kenilworth to a 17-6 lead at the break after Attwell kicked another penalty late in the half.
However, the home side pulled clear with three second-half tries, as Gunther scored one in reply for Bromsgrove, to increase their lead to 34 points.
The visitors played their best rugby in the final 10 minutes as Holt finished from close range, Sadler ran almost the length of the pitch to score and Fisher crashed over under the posts to secure a try bonus point with the clock in the red.
Bromsgrove are next in action at home to Lichfield on Saturday, February 18 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Finstall Park.
