RUBERY was illuminated on Saturday when the village’s annual Christmas lights switch-on took place.

There was plenty of festive fun and street theatre acts throughout the afternoon, including Steve Kaos, the Wish Fairies, and award-winning singers and Disney princesses from Sapphire Entertainment Midlands, Michelle Roberts and Charley Thompson.

Hundreds of people came down to join in with the celebrations – a much better turn-out compared to last year’s when there were freezing conditions, icy winds and snow.

Father Christmas led the countdown and pushed the plunger to light up New Road and the Primrose Hospice’s Lights of Love Tree.

Tony Maslen from the Rubery Festival, who organised the event along with Bromsgrove District Council, said: “There were people of all ages there and they loved it – we got some really good feedback.

“The children loved the princesses and, although it was quite windy, at least the rain held off.”
