BROMSGROVE Sporting ended their six-game winless run with a much-needed 2-1 home victory against Royston Town.

Dan Sweeney and Brandon Smalley struck in the first half to hand Sporting the points despite a Matthew Bateman penalty reducing the deficit in the second period at the Victoria Ground.

The result lifts Sporting up to 11th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Sporting announced that player-manager Michael McGrath would remain in charge of the club until the end of the season earlier this week and were rewarded with the Rouslers best display under his reign so far.

And despite the loss of striker Mikey Taylor to divisional rivals Stratford Town, Sporting took the lead on 21 minutes when Sweeney slotted the ball past Dimitrios Kyriatzis to finish off a fine move.

The home side doubled their lead on 35 minutes when debutant Smalley scored a fine individual goal as he turned his man before firing home from 15-yards out.

However, the deficit was halved on 62 minutes when Bateman scored from the penalty spot before

Rouslers goalkeeper Ollie Taylor made a number of crucial saves to ensure Sporting went home with the points.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Barwell on Saturday, November 12 with kick-off at 3pm at Kirkby Road.
