PUPILS from Holywell Primary School in Rubery have become ‘junior PCSOs’ as part of a new scheme being run by West Mercia Police.
A special assembly was held on Thursday to conclude the project which has seen five weekly lessons held, each tackling a different subject.
They were ‘stranger danger’, bullying, communication, parking laws, forensics and crime prevention and Internet safety.
The aim is to empower schools to tackle and educate children on issues such as bullying and anti-social behaviour around the school site and for the young officers to get across the important message to parents about parking responsibly on the school run.
PCSOs Mark Hyder and Stuart Taylor, from Hagley and Rubery Safer Neighbourhood Team, attended the assembly with Insp Lee Page and Coun Adrian Kriss.
PCSO Taylor said: “The scheme raises awareness to pupils, parents and drivers of the dangers that exist and sees everyone work together to ensure safer environments for us all.
“Holywell School and the headteacher Christian Hamilton have been brilliant to work with.
“All the children taking part have been a credit to the school and their parents.”
