A SPECIAL ‘florette’ rainbow at Northfield’s Royal Orthopaedic Hospital paid tribute to frontline staff yesterday on the first ever NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers’ Day.

It was created on the 73rd anniversary of the National Health Service by florette commissioned food artist Prudence Staite to thank staff for all their hard work.

Prudence hand-placed 1,218 ingredients and took 128 hours to construct the seven arches.

The red was created by 800 tomatoes, the orange by 220 sliced carrots, yellow was made up of 22 peppers and 40 pieces of spinach, rocket and frisee provided the green.

Blue was a hand-painted Thank You NHS message in the centre of the rainbow with 40 pieces of Lolla Rossa and Ruby Chard making up the indigo and the violet was candy-stripped beetroot (95 pieces).

Alongside the salad rainbow creation, Florette provided a healthy lunch to over 300 on-site staff at the hospital with goody bags and rainbow themed cupcakes .

On saying thank you to all keyworkers, Antony Greenwood, Florette’s Commercial and Marketing Director said: “Just like our frontline heroes have throughout the pandemic, we wanted to go above and beyond in saying thanks today on NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers’ Day.

“As a nation, we’ve relied on the NHS more than ever in the last 18 months. Our salad rainbow was created to showcase our appreciation and respect for the resilience and dedication of our key workers. It goes just a small way towards saying thank you.

“We’re also making a donation to NHS Charities Together every time a pack of our new Rainbow Crunchy Salad bag is purchased this year. The charity has played a more important role than ever before so we’re really proud to be able to support them.”

Co-hosting the NHS event in Birmingham, Amos Mallard, Head of Communications at ROH, added: “We’re really proud of the contribution our hospital team made during the pandemic.

“Working with Florette has been great, they share our ethos of health and wellbeing, so it’s been fantastic to celebrate together and thank our amazing key workers.”

On their charitable partnership with Florette, a spokesperson for NHS Charities Together said, “We are incredibly humbled by this show of support from Florette, the figure they hope to raise for NHS Charities Together with the new rainbow salad range will help us to continue our support for NHS staff and volunteers as we move toward a brighter future.

“Without contributions like this one, we would be unable to continue the vital work that we do, offering our love and thanks to those that have been there for us through such a challenging time. A huge thank you to Florette.”
