THE ORGANISERS of this summer’s Bromsgrove Carnival have announced this year’s event, along with the Timberhonger 10k, has been postponed.
They took the difficult decision in light of uncertainty relating to the next stage of restrictions being lifted and ’emerging data’ – no doubt a reference to the emergence of the Indian variant.
In a statement the committee said: “We recognise the importance of responsible event management and although there is likely to be some room for an event of small, restricted size, with the emerging data and the uncertainty on restrictions we feel the very essence of what carnival and Timberhonger stand for would be lost.
“The committee would like to thank the public for their patience and welcomed participants, businesses and the community to get ready to come together, come forward and show Bromsgrove what it has been missing for the last two years.
“We look forward to working with our named charities in July 2022 and will release a date as soon as we can.”

Last year’s carnival was cancelled because of the coronavirus.
Up until then the event’s popularity had been growing and it had gone from strength-to-strength.
The reintroduction of the carnival lorry floats – which made a welcome return in 2017 – was key to the success, attracting thousands of people to come out and celebrate the tradition.
