Firework display in Bromsgrove's Sanders park cancelled due to Covid-19

THERE will be no council firework display in Bromsgrove this year due to coronavirus.

The event, held every year at Sanders Park, usually attracts thousands of visitors which has been cited as one of the reasons for the cancellation.

Instead, the District Council’s events team have been looking at alternative entertainment and events, like the drive-in cinema, which meets the social distancing rules.

Coun Philip Thomas, who is the portflio holder for leisure, said: “Of course we may see a change in the guidance between now and November, but it’s unlikely that thousands of people will be allowed to congregate in one area.

“While we know the event is extremely popular, we have had to put the safety of our residents and staff first and so made the tough decision to cancel it for this year.

“Our team will be concentrating on creating other events which can be enjoyed safely.”

The drive-in cinema is on from Aug 21 – 23.
