Drivers facing weeks of disruption during work to upgrade Bromsgrove crossing

Bromsgrove Editorial 22nd Jan, 2020   0

DRIVERS in Bromsgrove are facing weeks of disruption when roadworks get under way at a crossing on one of the main junctions in and out of the town centre.

The transformation will begin on Monday, January 27, where the Worcester Road meets Hanover Street.

Using detectors to respond to demand, the upgraded ‘puffin’ crossing will allow pedestrians and traffic to be managed more efficiently.

The two existing zebra crossings on the exit from Worcester Road will remain the same.

This work is part of Worcestershire County Council’s scheme to improve walking and cycling routes across the town.

Councillor Ken Pollock, the council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: “This crossing is well used by people wanting to access the town centre and it’s important that we ensure pedestrians are able to cross this busy road as safely as possible.

“A lot of work has already taken place across Bromsgrove to improve the walking and cycling network but we have more to do in 2020.”

During the work, which will take five weeks to complete, temporary traffic lights will be put in place.
