We "continue to raise eyebrows" after Biggleswade result, says Kelly

BRENDAN Kelly was taken aback by the manner of Bromsgrove Sporting’s 4-2 away win at Biggleswade Town last Saturday.

The Rouslers had a 4-0 lead going into the final 19 minutes, thanks to a Mike Taylor double and efforts from Richard Gregory and Tom Taylor.

Although the Waders reduced the final margin of victory, Kelly was enthused by a result which stretched Bromsgrove’s unbeaten run in all competitions to ten games.

“You don’t expect to be 4-0 up in any away game, let alone against an established team at Step Three like Biggleswade,” said the Sporting boss.

“They haven’t demised since Chris Nunn left [in 2018]. Now he’s rejoined they’re back in with a shout of the play-offs.

“So we’re kind of pinching ourselves at the result, eyebrows continued to be raised.

“We were a little sloppy towards the end, but considering the Christmas period we’re happy.”

The hosts started the game on top with Drew Richardson and Treymayne Charles wasting chances, while Charlie Pattison forced a low save from Daniel Platt.

A similar save was made by Kyle Forster to deny Greg Mills down the other end, before Mike Taylor struck on the half-hour mark when rounding the keeper and tapping home.

Gregory promptly added a second with a low volley into the net from strike-partner Taylor’s centre, giving Sporting a solid lead at the interval.

The third goal arrived in the 66th minute when Josh Quaynor’s free kick was flicked on by Gregory into Tom Taylor’s path, who made no mistake in heading low into the corner.

And with a fourth arriving five minutes later, courtesy of a strike buried by Mike Taylor, Sporting looked home and hosed.

But despite Kweku Lucan striking twice in the space of 12 minutes for the hosts, the Rouslers managed to see the game out to its conclusion.
