A BRAVE dog who underwent two major operations at RSPCA’s Newbrook Animal Hospital in Frankley, is looking for a new home in the new year.
Bulldog Lola was signed over to the charity after her owners admitted they could no longer care for her.
Lola was suffering from a severe infection which was starting to rot her mammary glands and teats away – leaving her just hours away from death.
Staff at the hospital realised she had recently given birth to puppies and was found to have acute septic mastitis which is where bacteria enters the mammary gland and could be fatal.
After two operations to remove the infected tissue and promote new skin growth, Lola is now doing well and will be ready to find a new home soon.
Sarah Binns, medical staff nurse at the hospital, said: “Lola was in such a state when she was brought to us – she could not stand and was underweight.
“It was the worst case of mastitis I have seen in my career.
“Fortunately, now she is showing us her lovely personality.
“She is such a lively and fun-loving dog, it’s hard to believe she’s the same girl who was brought to us a few weeks ago.”
Lola will be moved over to Birmingham Animal Centre (Newbrook) soon where she will be put up for adoption.
