MEMBERS of the Bromsgrove-based Mercian Nordic Walking paid their respects to soldiers who served in the First World War by visiting the Belgian battlefields.
The group journeyed to Ypres Salient in Belgium and on the second evening presented a wreath as part of the Menin Gate Last Post ceremony.
The poignant bugle piece has been played there every night at 8pm since 1929, with the exception of the war years.
Ian Northcott BEM, who runs Mercian Nordic Walking, said: “This is a great honour and a memorable way for our members to pay their respects.”
Mercian Nordic Walking will be visiting the battlefields again in 2020 with a joint Somme/Ypres Tour.
