TUTORS at Courtyard Music don’t just teach ‘do-re-mi’ they play it as well and will be taking to the stage at the firm’s Music Festival later this year.

The festival will be held at the soon to be re-opened Tardebigge pub with every penny raised going to support cancer charity Macmillan.

“We’ll have a main stage and an acoustic stage and we’ve got 10 to 12 artists lined up who are all playing for free,” said co-owner Sandra Fokes.

Courtyard Music is very much a labour of love for Sandra and her husband Clive, which they took after retiring.

“Clive was working as an architect and we had the usual two kids and a mortgage but he was mad about music,” said Sandra.

“He didn’t like being retired and 18 months later he bought Courtyard Music while I was out.”

Since then the centre runs 150 to 160 music lessons a week, does vocal coaching and hires out its PA system for budding bands to get them on the road.

“We do all we can to encourage new musicians because without them we wouldn’t exist.

Courtyard Music will be at the Bromsgrove Carnival on July 13 and at their own charity music festival in September.
