CHILDREN at Jellybabies Nursery and Pre-School have been celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The youngsters all took part in a Diwali lamp making exercise before lighting them to help Lakshimi, the goddess of wealth, find her way into people’s homes.

The children then learned about the Diwali legend through acting out the tale of Rita and Sita’s return to their kingdom following 14 years of exile.

Jellybabies Nursery manager Jacqueline Walker said: “The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

“We feel it is important for the children to learn about a range of cultures and festivals through fun and exciting activities”.
