Mothering Sunday service held at Catshill Methodist Church as part of 50th anniversary celebrations

A MOTHERING Sunday service was held at Catshill Methodist Church as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Everyone who had been baptised in the church over the last half-a-century was contacted to invite them to the event to give thanks for life and for mothers.

But shortly after sending invitations, the minister was asked by local couple Paul and Jocy Masters to baptise their newborn baby, Ashley, at the service, so the congregation got to celebrate Ashley’s arrival as well.

Minister Rev Anne Smith said it followed a similar event for St Valentine’s Day which all the couples married at the church over the years were invited to.

“The Mothering Sunday was a wonderful occasion with many returning to church from as far away as Cambridge, Leicester and the Cotswolds.

“Ashley Masters was baptised and his great aunt Ruth Howard was the oldest person present who had been baptised at the church – though more than 50 years ago.”

Everyone then ate some traditional Simnel Cake.
