BROMSGROVE’s Life After Stroke Centre received a £1,000 donation from the town’s branch of the West Brom Building Society.

The centre, which is in Church Lane and is the first of its kind in the country, offers support to stroke survivors and their families.

The cash came from the building society’s Merciam Community Trust.

The Life After Stroke Centre, which opened in 2012, currently provides support for more than 130 stroke survivors through a range of activities including singing and yoga classes, speech and language therapy groups and rehabilitation sessions.

Mark Adams, manager of the West Brom’s Bromsgrove branch, said: “The Life After Stroke Centre is well known in the area for the outstanding work it does with people who have been impacted by this devastating condition.

“We were approached by one of our local customers Janice Boswell MBE who is also a volunteer at the centre that has benefited from its services in the past.

“The centre gives real hope to those people affected by strokes and we are delighted to provide this donation to help maintain the exceptional service it offers.”

The Mercian Community Trust is a partnership between the building society and the Diocese of Lichfield which supports community groups and charitable causes throughout the West Midlands.

Abi Floyd, community and events fund-raising manager at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 100,000 strokes a year in the UK, it is vital we can raise funds for people affected and their families.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the West Brom for its generous donation.

“The money will go a long way to strengthening our services at the Life After Stroke Centre, helping to support people living in Worcestershire whose lives have been impacted.”
