WITH the six-week holidays upon us, libraries throughout Worcestershire are running the annual Summer Reading Challenge in a bid to get more children to pick up a book.
The event, organised by the Reading Agency in collaboration with Arts Council England, has taken the theme of Animal Agents, encouraging children to read six books over the holidays to collect detective badges to help solve the mystery.
These six reads are accompanied by a review, which can encourage, or discourage others to read the books when they have been finished. Prizes await those who complete the challenge.
Additionally, local libraries are seeking volunteers aged between 12 and 24 to help out with the challenge.
Many opportunities are available and only a minimum of five hours across the whole summer needs to be spent.
