DAN PROTHEROUGH is hoping Bromsgrove claim victory in their final home game of this season this weekend and wants the Boars’ faithful to come out in their numbers.

The National Three South West basement side, who have only won twice all season, welcome sixth placed Brixham to Finstall Park in their penultimate game of the campaign on Saturday.

And after being concerned about the future of the Boars following their level transfer from National Three Midlands by the RFU in the summer last year, Protherough wants a strong crowd to cheer his side on.

“It would be great to get a win in our our final home game of the season and it would be even better if a large crowd could support us – the more the merrier,” the Boars’ director of rugby said.

“I have got to give a lot of credit to the players as they were dealt tough cards by the RFU in the summer and we feared for the future of the club because of how much this season has set us back.

“But the spirit and togetherness has been fantastic over the last few weeks.

“If we can keep the squad, including the youngsters, and make one or two good additions we should pushing for immediate promotion from Midlands One.”

The Boars put on a battling show on Saturday at Bracknell, narrowly being edged out by 29 points to 15.

Ethan Priest and Sam Bastock got the Boars’ tries while Jon Crithclow kicked a conversion and penalty in the defeat.

“It was a pleasing performance from the lads, especially as Bracknell have been on a good run of form,” Protherough added.

“We had four or five youngsters step up to the plate at the weekend which was good to see.

“If I had something to moan about, it would be we conceded a few soft tries after missing one-on-one tackles.”
