Northfield Athletic claim first three points with scalp of league leaders

NORTHFIELD Athletic picked up their first win of the season as they claimed the scalp of Bromsgrove & District League Premier Division leaders Pilkington Sunday.

Goals from Josh Moore (2), Paul Newman and Aaron Westwood secured the 4-0 victory for Athletic against a Pilkington side which had been reduced to nine men following the sending offs of Adam Pearshouse and Jack McGinn.

An eight-goal thriller in Division One saw second placed and unbeaten Rubery FC share the spoils in a 4-4 draw with FC Highgate United.

Paddy Behan (2), Daniel Wells and Mason Mansfield got on the scoresheet for Rubery.




The other game in the division saw Bromsgrove Athletico edged past Oak Tree Sporting 2-1 thanks to goals from Sam Wright and Wade Malley.

In Division Two, Sporting Club Redditch made it six wins out of six – and ten out of ten in all competitions – after they ran out 3-0 winners at second-from-bottom Hizza United.

Malique Williams (2) and Joe Shaw were on target for Redditch.

Division Three pacesetters Stoke Works claimed a 5-0 victory over Stoke Prior, a good send off for Works stalwart David Fisher before he emigrates to Australia.

Jon Snell bagged a hat-trick while Paul Halfpenny and Lee Smith were also on target.

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove Academicals edged past Cofton Old Boys 4-3 thanks to goals from Nick Baker, James Hylton, Andy Turnbell and Jake Exley.

Gareth Parfitt, Mark Cook and Andy Jervis scored for Old Boys.

Black Horse booked their place in the second round of the FA National Sunday Cup with a 3-0 victory over Oadby Athletic and now face a mouthwatering tie against Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination leaders Austin Ex Apprentices.

Meanwhile, Alcester Town crashed out at the very first stage as they were defeated 4-3 after extra-time – this coming after leading 3-0 thanks to Dean Hay’s brace and one from Matt Layton.

Callowbrook Swifts Green will meet Red Lion in the first round of the WA Harris Cup following their 2-0 win at Chaddesley Corbett Reserves courtesy of goals from Kieran Wyatt and brother Luke.

Spa Athletic progressed into the first round of the Centenary Cup after claiming a 6-4 victory over Hewell.

Luke Rainbow lead the way with a hat-trick while Matt Winsper, Kevin Owens and Conrad Stewart also scored.

AFC Northfield booked their place in the second round with a 3-1 victory over Awkies Allstars courtesy of strikes from Richard Dugmore, Remel Johnson and Josh Cullen.

Mike Wakeman netted for Allstars.

Redditch United Sunday are also safely through as they defeated Winyates 5-0 thanks to goals from Jack O’Donnell (2), Jamie Sippitts, Josh Moseley and Brad Hendry.
