Furious taxi drivers stage blockade at Bromsgrove Station in rank protest

THERE was confusion this week surrounding parking at Bromsgrove Railway Station after an area of waste ground being used by waiting taxis was cordoned off by contractors.

That prompted a blockade by more than 20 taxi drivers on Wednesday in protest at their parking area being ‘taken away’.

A designated space which could accommodate two taxis was created last year by the council at the request of Coun Sean Shannon but was converted back to normal commuter parking spaces in light of taxi drivers being able to use the area of waste ground on the right hand side of the car park.

When the new Bromsgrove Station opens in the spring there will be designated spaces for four taxis but it is unclear as to what will happen until then.

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: “It is unlikely we will be putting a temporary taxi rank back in as it will add to the parking problems encountered by rail users.”

No-one from Bromsgrove Taxi Association was available for comment at the time we went to press.
